Online Workshop “Consultative Research Ethics Tool in Qualitative Social Research”

The CHANGER team at the Institute of Sociology, LMU Munich, is currently developing a consultative tool to support both researchers and Research Ethics Committees (RECs) in conducting research ethics consultations and reviews in the context of qualitative social science research. The approach acknowledges the specific characteristics of qualitative research, including its emphasis on openness, contextual sensitivity, and processual dynamics. The tool is designed to foster peer-based, dialogical formats of consultation that complement researchers’ ongoing ethical self-reflection as well as formal procedures of institutional ethics review.

To invite feedback on the tool, we are organizing an online workshop, which will take place on September 1, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. via Zoom. The three-hour session will be conducted in German and present preliminary findings from the interviews and focus groups conducted within the CHANGER project and offer an opportunity to collaboratively test and discuss the emerging tool.
